A Word from Ita Buttrose National President of Alzheimers Australia

Dear Yvonne

Delighted to hear everything went so well [with the fundraiser for Alzheimers Australia].

“Dementia will be the major health problem of the 21st century.

Each week 1500 new cases are diagnosed and dementia is now the third most common cause of death in Australia.

“There are many forms of dementia but Alzheimer’s disease is the most common.

“Alzheimer’s Australia is committed to raising awareness about dementia. This includes early diagnosis; quality care in community residential and acute care settings and investment in dementia research.

“We also want to make Australians aware that they may be able to reduce their risk of dementia by following a healthy diet – what’s good for the heart is also good for brain – and doing both physical and mental exercise. The brain benefits from both forms of exercise.

“Dementia is not a natural part of ageing.

“Anyone wanting more information should ring our toll free number 1800 100 500.”
